Heart Bones by Colleen Hoover

Publication Date: August 19, 2020

Plot: Life and a dismal last name are the only two things Beyah Grim's parents ever gave her. After carving her path all on her own, Beyah is well on her way to bigger and better things, thanks to no one but herself. With only two short months separating her from the future she's built and the past she desperately wants to leave behind, an unexpected death leaves Beyah with no place to go during the interim. Forced to reach out to her last resort, Beyah has to spend the remainder of her summer on a peninsula in Texas with a father she barely knows. Beyah's plan is to keep her head down and let the summer slip by seamlessly, but her new neighbor Samson throws a wrench in that plan.

Samson and Beyah have nothing in common on the surface. She comes from a life of poverty and neglect; he comes from a family of wealth and privilege. But one thing they do have in common is that they're both drawn to sad things. Which means they're drawn to each other. With an almost immediate connection too intense for them to continue denying, Beyah and Samson agree to stay in the shallow end of a summer fling. What Beyah doesn't realize is that a rip current is coming, and it's about to drag her heart out to sea.

MY THOUGHTS:

I’m making my way through all of all of Colleen Hoover’s books slowly + I love every single one of them! She has never disappointed me, and Heart Bones was no different! Honestly, I feel like this has to be one of the most underrated Colleen Hoover books! As of right now, this one is easily in my top 5. Like all of her books, Heart Bones makes you feel, think, and want to hug all of your people incredibly tight. This one was the best summer read, although it’s a bit different from her other books! Although it wasn’t all sunshine + rainbows in true #CoHo fashion, this book gives you all the summer, beachy vibes!

I adored this book + how broken Samson + Beyah both were when they found each other, but they connected in such a beautiful and deep way with one another. Beyah overcame so much + did it all on her own. Reading her story was truly heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time. And Samson?! Oooff my heart just MELTED with how he loved her. BUT Pepper Jack Cheese was one of my favorite characters 🐾

Also, the post-volleyball scene just whoooo! 🔥 If you’re a fan of ugly crying, Heart Bones is for you 🤣 Loved everything about this book!!

FAVORITE QUOTES

“Love is alot like water. It can be calm. Raging. Threatening. Soothing. Water will be many things, but every in all its forms, it will always be water. You are my water. I think I might be yours, too.”

“Hearts don’t have bones. They can’t actually break.”

“Home still feels like a mythical place I’ve been searching for my whole life.”

“It’s weird how your whole life can completely change in the hours between waking up and going to bed.”

“Look at us. Two lonely kids who slipped through all the cracks, but then climbed right back up to the top of the world.”

“Seeing the ocean in person feels almost as important as having food and shelter. It doesn’t seem farfetched to believe a charity should exist for the sole purpose of allowing people to afford a trip to the beach. It should be a basic human right. A necessity. It’s like years of therapy, rolled up into a view."
