Layla by Colleen Hoover

Publication Date: December 8, 2020

Plot: When Leeds meets Layla, he’s convinced he’ll spend the rest of his life with her—until an unexpected attack leaves Layla fighting for her life. After weeks in the hospital, Layla recovers physically, but the emotional and mental scarring has altered the woman Leeds fell in love with. In order to put their relationship back on track, Leeds whisks Layla away to the bed-and-breakfast where they first met. Once they arrive, Layla’s behavior takes a bizarre turn. And that’s just one of many inexplicable occurrences.

Feeling distant from Layla, Leeds soon finds solace in Willow—another guest of the B&B with whom he forms a connection through their shared concerns. As his curiosity for Willow grows, his decision to help her find answers puts him in direct conflict with Layla’s well-being. Leeds soon realizes he has to make a choice because he can’t help both of them. But if he makes the wrong choice, it could be detrimental for all of them.

MY THOUGHTS:

So, definitely not my favorite CoHo book in the slightest. Let me start with the fact that I’m not into paranormal or spooky books normally, so this really isn’t a surprise. I ADORE Colleen Hoover, so I thought I’d give this one a shot even though it isn’t my typical type of book.

I still love her writing style, but I probably wouldn’t read it again. The concept and plot of this book was super cool and kept me intrigued, but just not my jam overall. I had a hard time fully connecting with the characters like I do with Colleen Hoover’s other writing. I spent half of the book trying to decide if Leeds is even likable at all. Honestly, I still don’t know.

Recommendations on this book were all over the place from “ew no don’t read that” to “MY FAVE BOOK EVER” so I really didn’t know what to expect going into it. Not my cup of tea obviously, but if you like paranormal stories, I definitely think you should give this one a shot!
