The Betrothed by Kiera Cass

Publication Date: May 5, 2020

Plot: When King Jameson declares his love for Lady Hollis Brite, Hollis is shocked—and thrilled. After all, she’s grown up at Keresken Castle, vying for the king’s attention alongside other daughters of the nobility. Capturing his heart is a dream come true. But Hollis soon realizes that falling in love with a king and being crowned queen may not be the happily ever after she thought it would be. And when she meets a commoner with the mysterious power to see right into her heart, she finds that the future she really wants is one that she never thought to imagine.

MY THOUGHTS:

My goodness, I forgot how much I love Kiera Cass until I get to read her beautiful words again. As someone who has been in absolute love with The Selection series for many, many years (it’s one my favorite comfort series), it was so good to get wrapped up in Kiera’s worlds all over again.

There is only one word for this book…BEAUTIFUL! Every word was beautifully written to perfection. Such a light, easy read. Kiera Cass books are so fun to read. Kiera’s books are the only royalty-themed books that I’ve ever truly adored, and this book was no exception.

I do feel like The Betrothed is a bit predictable compared to Kiera Cass’ other works, but I still loved it! I think there could have been more character

development, particularly of the relationships with Jameson and Silas. The wedding went too quickly and I think there's multiple candidates for the true villain which I assume we'll find out in the next book. Also, why did Silas have to die?! I adored him too much.

If you like The Selection or anything related to royalty, this book is IT for you. 10/10 recommend reading The Betrayed and literally anything by Kiera Cass. She’s a magical unicorn that we don’t deserve!
