Twisted Games by Ana Huang

Publication Date: July 29, 2021

Plot: She can never be his...but he's taking her anyway. Stoic, broody, and arrogant, elite bodyguard Rhys Larsen has two rules: 1) Protect his clients at all costs 2) Do not become emotionally involved. Ever. He has never once been tempted to break those rules…until her.

Bridget von Ascheberg. A princess with a stubborn streak that matches his own and a hidden fire that reduces his rules to ash. She’s nothing he expected and everything he never knew he needed. Day by day, inch by inch, she breaks down his defenses until he’s faced with a truth he can no longer deny: he swore an oath to protect her, but all he wants is to ruin her. Take her. Because she’s his. His princess. His forbidden fruit. His every depraved fantasy.

Regal, strong-willed, and bound by the chains of duty, Princess Bridget dreams of the freedom to live and love as she chooses. But when her brother abdicates, she’s suddenly faced with the prospect of a loveless, politically expedient marriage and a throne she never wanted. And as she navigates the intricacies—and treacheries—of her new role, she must also hide her desire for a man she can’t have. Her bodyguard. Her protector. Her ultimate ruin.

Unexpected and forbidden, theirs is a love that could destroy a kingdom…and doom them both.

MY THOUGHTS:

Oh my goodness this book! If I could read this book again for the first time for the rest of my life I’d be a happy gal! I think I have a soft spot for royal love stories. I LOVED this one so so much. Such a good read! This book was everything. Ana does no wrong when it comes to adult romances. I’d heard this book was many people's favorite out of the series and I understand why. The chemistry and the tension between these two characters is everything!

Two words are really all that’s needed….RHYS LARSEN. Rhys and Bridget are the types of characters you really root for. I loved seeing Rhys rough exterior melt away for Bridget. The little vacation that Rhys planned for Bridget - I was screaming internally! And Bridget is the badass QUEEN we all dream of being. As a massive lover of the Reign tv series, I kept picturing Bridget as Adelaide Kane that plays Mary in that show, and I honestly think it fits perfectly. This one was romantic and SPICY 🌶 I’m so stoked to continue the story with Twisted Hate!

“But someone once told me we always end up where we’re meant to be, and this is where I’m meant to be. With you.”

“You don’t need a crown to be queen, princess.”

“There’s not much in the world I want to claim as mine. I’ve seen and done too much shit in my life to believe in forever. But you…” He grasped my chin with his free hand. “You belong to me. I don’t give a fuck what a law or anyone else says. You are mine.”

“She wasn't mine to take, but I was taking her anyway. Her laughs, her fears, her joy and her pain. Every inch of her body and beat of her heart. All mine.”

“I’d lived in hell my whole life, and it wasn’t until now I glimpsed what heaven felt like. But as our kiss deepened and I sank into her once again, I realized I was wrong. Bridget felt better than heaven. She felt like home.”

“You don’t get it. There is no happily ever after for us.” We weren’t a fairytale. We were a forbidden love letter, tucked into the back of a drawer and retrieved only in the darkness of night. We were the chapter of bliss before the climax hit and everything crumbled into ash. We were a story that was always meant to end. “This is it.”

“I don’t need a happily ever after. I need to be by your side. I need you happy and healthy and safe. Bridget, I need you. In any way I can have you.”
