Just My Type by Falon Ballard

Publication Date: February 7, 2023

Plot: To win the job of her dreams, a relationship-prone journalist needs to learn how to stay single in this heartwarming and hilarious new romantic comedy from the beloved author of Lease on Love.

Lana Parker has never been single for long. After a disastrous breakup with her high school boyfriend, Seth Carson, Lana's bounced from long-term relationship to long-term relationship. She's an expert girlfriend, even acting as the resident dating and relationship columnist for one of Los Angeles's trendiest websites. But now, at the age of thirty, Lana suddenly finds herself single again, and she's determined to stay that way, no matter how challenging.

That is, until her high school ex, Seth, now a journalist in his own right, takes an assignment at Lana's site. Ready to put down roots after years of traveling and freelancing, Seth becomes not only Lana's colleague but also her competitor. With their combative relationship history--and undeniable chemistry--they quickly find themselves pitted against each other in a battle of wits: writing an article series that goes against dating type. For Lana, that means writing about staying single and embracing it. For Seth, it's learning to settle down and become boyfriend material. Whoever's is most popular wins a highly coveted columnist spot that either could only dream of. But when the two square off against one another, it's not only their careers on the line--it's also their hearts.

MY THOUGHTS:

OMG SECOND-CHANCE ROMANCE PERFECTION!! I am utterly obsessed with this book. I fell completely in love with Lana & Seth’s story—both separately and together, and it was so beautiful to see them coming back together in the best way possible.

After 12 years apart, high school sweethearts who sadly became strangers, Seth reappears in Lana’s life.....and her workplace. It's here that their boss pits them against each other in a writing competition where Lana can be comfortable staying single and Seth can end his womanizing tendencies. As the story continues, we get a riveting, sizzling enemies-to-lovers, second chance romance that will physically make you WEAK at the knees.

As a writer, a book-lover, and a fangirl at heart, I really related to Lana in a way that I never expected to. It really had me rooting for her to cheer for herself and be confident in who she is. And Seth—my newest book boyfriend—is the sweetest, kindest, dreamiest, sexiest lead I could have picked for Lana’s other half in her story.

I’m a sucker for great love confessions in contemporary romances, and Seth & Lana's were perfect. Reading a book is just SUPPOSED to be like this...feeling a thousand different feelings as you read it, and really feeling the love and heartbreak of the main characters.

Also, can we take a minute to appreciate the healthy discussion of therapy in this book?! Both of the main characters go to therapy during the book, and there is such a positive discussion around it. LOVE THAT.

I am obsessed with these characters and this story, and you can catch me reading this over and over again!! This was such a great read, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys romance books, period. Thank you to NetGalley and Putnam for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!

When I decided to relocate and settle in one place, I didn’t even have to think about where to go. I’m the spinning needle of a compass, and you’ve always been my true north, Parker."

"'Parker. Come on. I’d been in love with you since I was six. It took me eight years to work up the courage to hold your hand.' He gives me a nudge back, and the movement causes our hands to brush each other. His fingers twitch and I wonder if he’s fighting the same instinct I am."

"'Well then, if you’re so angry, why are you here?' My heart pounds so loudly I’m afraid he’ll hear it. There’s so much heat between us—the furious feelings and the tension and the proximity—my skin tingles from head to toe. He pulls away just enough so he can look in my eyes. 'I don’t know, Parker. I just couldn’t be anywhere else.'"
